Making a Hairline Caste

Equipment needed:
- Water spray
- Pintail comb
- Cling film
- Sellotape
- Permanent marker

How to:
NOTE: When making a hairline caste you must follow the model’s hairline exactly, otherwise it will not look natural or real
- Begin by wetting the front of the hair, comb it back and secure with hair grips
- Make sure that the hair is as flat to the head as possible
REMEMBER: If the wig is for an up do, then you will need to take a caste of all of the hairline, including around the back.
- Make sure that no hair is overlapping and that it is all going backwards
- Take some cling film and pull it tightly over their head, ensuring that all of the hairline is under the cling film, including the ears
- Whilst someone else is holding it firmly at the back, stick some sellotape over the hairline, slightly above, down the forehead a bit and over the ears
- Layer up the sellotape to give you a better shape of their head and so that the caste isn’t flimsy
- Use a permanent marker and trace the hairline, and around the ears
NOTE: It is best to draw on more information than you might need
- Draw the lines in the direction that the hair is going and then write the model’s name on the caste
- Sellotape back over the permanent marker to stop it from transferring anywhere

Evaluation:
Doing this for the first time was a new experience and I found it quite difficult to get all the hair under the cling film, whilst keep the cling film smooth and bumpless.  I think that it is definitely something that I need to practice more so that I can get better at it and more confident when doing it.
